Installing the fibre

Mid Sussex fibre ‘spine’ completed

We have now completed the installation of a fibre network ‘spine’ as part of our Digital Mid Sussex programme to make our district one of the most digitally advanced in the country.

We began work to install a fibre optic network in underground ducting around Burgess Hill in October 2020, completing this ‘loop’ in spring 2021.

We’ve since been busy installing a fibre ‘spine’ stretching from Crawley at its northern end to Brighton, via Horsham and Haywards Heath.

We completed the Crawley-to-Burgess Hill segment last winter, and have now finished the remaining Burgess Hill-to-Brighton section. We’ve also installed some branches from this main north-to-south route.

The completion of this cabling puts the foundations in place for full-fibre Internet services to become available across Mid Sussex in the near future.

For residents, the date Internet service providers will offer full-fibre services will depend on the level of demand demonstrated in each area. So, register your interest – and encourage your neighbours to do the same.

Many businesses and public bodies will be able to get full-fibre services almost straight away.
